Zoya (actress Lily James) is an ordinary London girl, a documentary filmmaker, who lives with her eccentric mother (actress Emma Thompson) and is looking for love. Admittedly, she's not doing well on the latter front - the guys she finds on online dating apps keep turning up... Not for her, to put it mildly.

Zoya's childhood friend Kazim (actor Shazad Latif), who lives in the neighboring house, does not pay attention to all those romantic nonsense, because according to the customs of his nation, his parents will choose the bride for him. One day, after hearing that Kazim is finally engaged, Zoya has a great idea to make a documentary about different romantic traditions. After persuading Kazim and his family to agree to this adventure, Zoja begins to record the entire marriage process of her friend.

Kazim's story will allow Zoya to see the shocking negotiations between the newlywed parents, get to know the future bride in Pakistan, and with each new day, with each surprising detail, will make you rethink the concepts of modern love and marriage and open your heart to new feelings.
